The 2011 Nissan Pathfinder enters its 25th year on the market with a new special-edition trim. This 7-passenger midsize SUV uses traditional truck-type body-on-frame construction. S, SV (formerly SE), luxury-oriented LE, and special Silver Edition trims are available. All have a 266-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 engine. Also offered is the LE V8 with a 310-horsepower 5.6-liter V8 engine.
The only transmission is a 5-speed automatic. Maximum towing capacity is 6,000 pounds with the V6 and 7,000 pounds with the V8. V6 models are available with rear-wheel drive. All Pathfinders also offer 4-wheel drive; LE models have Nissan’s All-Mode 4WD system that can be left engaged on dry pavement. The 4WD on other versions should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Both 4WD systems include a low-range gear for off-road use. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags that cover all seating rows, and front-side airbags. Pathfinders have a 50/50 split-folding 3rd-row seat. Leather upholstery and heated front seats are standard on the Silver Edition and LE. A navigation system is standard on the LE V8 and optional on the LE V6. Silver Edition models also have special exterior and interior trim.
