The 2011 Jeep Liberty sees only minor trim changes. Liberty shares its basic design with the Dodge Nitro. It reprises base Sport, off-road-oriented Renegade, and top-line Limited trim levels.
All use a 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Standard is Chrysler’s Interactive Decel Fuel Shut Off, which is designed to save fuel by shutting off the gasoline supply during deceleration. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds. Sport and Limited offer rear-wheel drive or Jeep’s Command-Trac II part-time 4-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Optional on the 4WD Sport and Limited and standard on the Renegade is Jeep’s Selec-Trac II 4WD, which can be left engaged on dry pavement. Both include low-range gearing for off-road use. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, an antiskid system, and curtain-side airbags. Renegade versions have specific exterior trim, wheels, and tires. Limited versions have leather upholstery and heated front seats. Available is Chrysler’s Uconnect multimedia suite, which can include a 30-gigabyte hard drive for storing digital media and picture files, a wireless cell-phone link, and a navigation system with real-time traffic updates. Optional on all models is Sky Slider, a power retractable canvas roof. A new-for-2011 Jet option package for the Sport and Limited includes 20-inch wheels, an uplevel audio system, and rear-obstacle detection.
